The Office of the County Counsel is recruiting for County Counsel Paralegals who provide assistance to civil attorneys in the preparation of legal documents, responses to Public Records Act requests, discovery requests, research, analysis, and hearing and trial preparation.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Background: A background investigation will be conducted, including a DOJ/FBI fingerprint check.
2) Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following options:
Option 1: A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association.
Option 2: A certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a post-secondary institution that requires the successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter), or equivalent, units in law-related courses that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau of Private Post-secondary and Vocational Education.
Option 3: A baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject, a minimum of one (1) year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three (3) years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three (3) years, and a written declaration from this attorney stating the applicant is qualified to perform legal tasks.
Desired Qualifications
Experience interviewing clients and witnesses, including expert witnesses; gathering documents and preparing responses to Public Records Act requests; preparing legal documents; preparing Pitchess motions; preparing and responding to discovery requests; summarizing records, deposition testimony, and information; assisting attorneys in the courtroom during civil trials, and using Lexis-Nexis and/or WestLaw research systems is highly desirable.
