Job Summary

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience or strong foundation in civil engineering design for roads, bridges, culverts, and public infrastructure
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Knowledge of project management principles and ability to support projects from design through construction
  • Familiarity with contract development and administration for professional services or construction projects
  • Skill in reviewing engineering plans and conducting field inspections to ensure compliance and quality
  • Strong analytical abilities with experience collecting, interpreting, and presenting technical data
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and interacting with the public
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn, gain certifications or licensure, and advance within an alternatively staffed classification structure

HIRING RANGES:
Assistant Engineer: $6,452 - $7,098/Monthly
Associate Engineer: $7,129 - $7,842/Monthly
Associate Civil Engineer: $7,876 - $8,664/Monthly

Qualifications

The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. Education and Experience:
  • Assistant Engineer:
    • MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in civil engineering or related field or foreign or non-US college Bachelor’s degree in related field with an evaluation of the educational units from a United States accredited college or an approved agency verifying coursework is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field and two (2) years of technical engineering experience in the United States.
    • PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, possession of a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate and up to two (2) years of additional engineering experience.
  • Associate Engineer:
    • MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering or related field and four (4) years of civil engineering experience in a public agency or equivalent ORBachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering or related field, possession of a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate and two (2) years of civil engineering experience in a public agency or equivalent.
    • PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, possession of a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate and additional years of civil engineering experience in a public agency setting.
  • Associate Civil Engineer:
    • MINIMUM: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering, Surveying or closely related field and two (2) years professional engineering experience.
    • PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and three (3) years of civil engineering experience in a public agency setting.
Licenses and Certification:
  • The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.
  • Associate Civil Engineer: Possess registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California.

Special Requirements:
  • Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation, which may include Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire.
  • DMV printout prior to hire.
  • Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
