LEAD PLUMBER

Salary Range: $6,034 - $7,651/Monthly

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; non-exempt classification. May be required to work overtime hours in response to operational needs and/or emergency calls.

Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of the Supervising Plumber, the incumbent works with and is in charge of a small group of skilled plumbers and semi-skilled assistants involved in the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of: mechanical plumbing equipment, and fixture; of water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/ prevention, and refrigeration-water supply plumbing systems, including automated plumbing systems. The incumbent maintains, troubleshoots and tests plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices; assembles, installs and repairs pumps, pipes, fittings and fixtures; cuts, threads and brazes pipes; assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of a variety of metallic materials; manages laboratory utilities; advises on the selection, order and storage of plumbing equipment and supplies; inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; inspects related work performed by contractors; estimates cost, time and materials for plumbing projects; participates in the maintenance and operation of a plumbing shop; maintains and services tools and equipment used in the performance of duties; performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintains a safe and clean work environment; maintains records and retrieves data related to work performed, using manual and/or computerized record keeping systems; prepares standard reports; and consults and works with other trade workers.

Required Qualifications & Experience: The incumbent must have one to two years of experience as a journey-level plumber, including work coordination responsibilities. The incumbent must also have the ability to lead, instruct, and coordinate the work of a small group of skilled and/or semi-skilled workers; accurately estimate costs, supplies, and materials needed for jobs; prepare lists of materials; ensure work is performed in sequence with records maintained; and prepare complex reports. The incumbent must possess a current Journeyman Plumbing Certificate issued by the City of Los Angeles, a Los Angeles County Certificate as a certified backflow tester, and a valid California Driver License. The incumbent must possess a working knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques; of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the plumbing trade; the operation of building automation systems; applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety, and California State Plumbing Codes. The incumbent must have the ability to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems; perform applicable brazing work; make rough sketches of plumbing installations; read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; estimate materials and labor costs associated with standard plumbing maintenance and repair work; and have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Desired Qualifications: Experience in remodeling and new construction.
