JOB SUMMARY


JOB SUMMARY

Performs routine work under direct supervision involving the installation and maintenance of the City's electric utility system; helps Lineworkers; trims trees; operates various types of work equipment and tools; assists in responding to electrical emergencies; and performs other related duties. Rotates crews regularly and works under the direction of crew members and Electric Distribution Supervisors.

The Lineworker Apprentice III is authorized to work on energized primary voltages "Rubber Glove", with appropriate PPE, only when a Lineworker is in the same Aerial Bucket with them.
Perform all duties assigned to Lineworker Helper, Apprentice I's and Apprentice II's plus the following functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. The Lineworker Apprentice III is authorized to work alone in the Aerial Bucket by using a Live Line Tool to disconnect Hot Line clamps and open Fuse Barrels in order to work below energized primary as long as the minimum approach distance (MAD) is not violated.
  2. A Class (A) Texas Commercial Driver's License is required or must be obtained within 90 days.
  3. Assist in the terminations of CT Metering.
  4. Splicing and termination medium voltage power cables.
  5. Is required to be "on call" on a rotating basis or as needed to meet business needs.

DECISION MAKING
This position works under general and direct supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Must have successfully completed SMEU Apprentice I and II program requirements, or equivalent
  3. A Class (A) Texas Commercial Driver's License is required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  4. Must maintain a valid Texas Class (A) Commercial Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  1. Basic computer skills to check emails and enter time worked are required.
  1. Must be able to lawfully report to duty within 1 hour.
  2. Must respond to calls on nights and weekends within one hour.

CAREER TRAINING PROGRESSION

Successfully complete the following criteria to be eligible to advance to the next level.

  4. Written Test
  5. Hands on Skills Test administered by the Electric Distribution Supervisors

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision and hearing constantly; standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling and balancing frequently; sitting, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing to heights over thirty- five (35) feet high, talking and foot controls occasionally; crawling rarely.

Working conditions can involves exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment/vehicles, high/low voltage electrical currents, hazardous chemicals/materials, wild life, working at heights or confined spaces.
