JOB SUMMARY

JOB SUMMARY
Performs routine work under direct supervision involving the installation and maintenance of the City's electric utility system; helps Lineworkers; trims trees; operates various types of work equipment and tools; assists in responding to electrical emergencies; and performs other related duties. Rotates crews regularly and works under the direction of crew members and Electric Distribution Supervisors.

Lineworker Apprentice II may work on voltages up to 480-volt 3 phase secondary with appropriate PPE.

Performs all duties as assigned to a Lineworker Helper and Lineworker Apprentice I plus the following functions:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Operate an Aerial Bucket truck to connect single and three phase customer services.
  2. Operate an Aerial Bucket truck to install and maintain street lights.
  3. Operate the Digger / Line Truck to Load, Dig and Set poles.
  4. Is required to be "on call" on a rotating basis or as needed to meet business needs.
  5. Miscellaneous:
    • Prepares time sheets, and other routine paper work.
    • Obtains and records transformer and meter information.
  6. Assists in training Lineworker Helpers and Apprentices as assigned.

DECISION MAKING
This position works under general and direct supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Must have successfully completed SMEU Apprentice I program requirements, or equivalent
  3. A Class (A) Texas Commercial Driver's License is required or must be obtained within 90 days.
  4. Must maintain a valid Texas Class (A) Commercial Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  5. Basic computer skills to check emails and enter time worked are required.
  6. Must reply to calls for assistance on nights and weekends within one hour.

    • Module 4 Underground Electrical Systems
    • Module 5 End of Course Activities
  4. Written Test
  5. Hands on Skills Test administered by the Electric Distribution Supervisors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision and hearing constantly; standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling and balancing frequently; sitting, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing to heights over thirty-five (35) feet high, talking and foot controls occasionally; crawling rarely. Working conditions can involves exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment/vehicles, high/low voltage electrical currents, hazardous chemicals/materials, wild life, working at heights or confined spaces.
