Jury Specialist

The representative duties listed below are intended to provide generalized examples of major duties and responsibilities that are performed by the Jury Specialist. These representative duties are not intended to reflect all duties performed by this position.

  • Performs duties relating to master wheel refill and grand jury selection. Monitors and records the jury questionnaire process, juror attendance, and selection. Provides support and assistance to jurors during jury service.
  • Prepares and mails summons notices and forms. Processes payments and reimbursements for jurors and prepare attendance certificates. Processes returned summons, including data entry and preparation of excusal letters.
  • Operates the Court's Jury Management System (JMS) and the e-juror component of JMS and other automated systems. Performs quality checks on data entry and makes appropriate corrections.
  • Maintains and updates the inbound and outbound telephone calls through use of interactive voice response system for summoned jurors. Maintains and updates demographic and other information on juror candidates.
  • Resolves routine juror candidate requests for deferral, waiver, or special needs.
  • Monitors court calendars to determine the appropriate number of jurors needed for each jury trial.
  • Works with and coordinates needs and jury activity with chambers' staff, Clerk's Office staff, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney's Office, and other groups to ensure the smooth operation of high-profile or protracted jury trials.
  • Checks in jurors, conducts juror orientation, and assists jurors with their logistical needs. Directs jurors to the appropriate courtroom.
  • Provides operational and logistical support for grand jury, as required.
  • Prepares and provides statistical data on jury wheel, and petit and grand jury panels.
  • Serves as a liaison for the jury supervisor with other agencies, outside vendors, and local building management as requested.
