Summary

Job Title

Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the 1st Special Operations Wing.

Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.

Represents the 1st Special Operations Wing with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the IG Inspections directorate/division/section, ensuring that the commander's inspection program complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets command intent and satisfies customer needs.

Plans, organizes, and executes a wide range of complex activities for the Wing Commander's Inspection Program (CCIP), and the Exercise and Evaluation Program.

U.S. Citizenship Required

Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov

If authorized, PCS will be paid IAW JTR and AF Regulations. If receiving an authorized PCS, you may be subject to completing/signing a CONUS agreement. More information on PCS requirements, may be found at:

May be required to occasionally travel by military or commercial air to conferences, meetings, or other functions away from the normal duty station.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance.

This position requires a high degree of discretion in relation to sensitive information of which the incumbent is aware.

The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

IAW AF guidance, incumbent must attend the USAF Basic Inspectors Course for Unit Effectiveness Inspection (UEI) or Commander's Inspection Programs (CCIP) (as appropriate) within 90 days (180 days for ARC) of assignment to an IG position; - (cont'd)

(Cont'd) - and Wing IG inspectors of nuclear-capable units will complete the USAF Nuclear Inspectors Course within 180 days of assignment to an IG team. Completion of other courses will be accomplished IAW applicable DoD and AF regulations.

This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

"This is a Supervisory Position." A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions for General Inspection Investigation Enforcement and Compliance Series, 1801.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of Public Laws, Executive Orders, DoD Regulations, Air Force Instructions, and other issues related to the inspection process, to include DoD and AF administrative and inspection policies, procedures, techniques, and practices, as well as public information release and denial determinations (Freedom Of Information Act, Official Use Request, Privacy Act, etc.). Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in -grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Public Laws, Executive Orders, DoD Regulations, Air Force Instructions, and other issues related to the inspection process, to include DoD and AF administrative and inspection policies, procedures, techniques, and practices, as well as public information release and denial determinations (Freedom Of Information Act, Official Use Request, Privacy Act, etc.).
  • Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors.
  • Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of IGI; and to plan, organize, and negotiate effectively with senior specialists/management to accept and implement recommendations, where proposals involve substantial resources, and require extensive changes in established concepts and procedures.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
