Summary
Armed Protective Security Officer (PSO)
This position is for a part-time Armed Protective Security Officer (PSO) providing security services at various federal buildings and installations in and around the Portland, Maine area.
FPS Protective Security Officers (PSOs) are responsible for security and monitoring duties at federal facilities throughout the state of Maine. This includes protecting government buildings and property, safeguarding personnel and visitors, and controlling access to secured locations. PSOs must be prepared to respond to emergencies, conduct inspections and patrols, and enforce federal security procedures.
Primary responsibilities include securing federal buildings and government property, controlling access for employees, contractors, and visitors, conducting patrols, inspections, and perimeter checks, responding to alarms, incidents, and emergency situations, completing clear and accurate written incident reports, and enforcing all federal and contract-specific security policies.
Minimum job requirements include 2 years of security experience, OR military service, OR law enforcement experience, ability to pass a federal background investigation (no felony convictions, no domestic violence or assault-related charges), being a U.S. citizen and able to provide a valid Social Security card, high school diploma or GED, minimum 21 years of age, ability to speak, read, write, and understand English clearly, and successfully passing medical evaluation and drug screening. The company will assist with processing required federal clearances.
Training requirements include 5–7 days of mandatory training, including firearms training, defensive tactics, OC spray and baton training, and holding or obtaining CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
Pay is $30.13/hour base pay and $5.10/hour Health & Welfare benefit, totaling $35.23/hour.
Benefits include 401(k), health insurance, vacation time, holiday pay, and a referral program.
Schedule is part-time, variable, based on coverage needs for full-time employees (vacation, sick leave, call-offs).
Work location is federal facilities in and around the Portland, Maine area.
