THE POSITIONBecome a Security Officer 1 with the Department of Human Services (DHS) and take on an essential role that keeps the Loysville Youth Development Center safe and running smoothly. This active, team driven position keeps you involved throughout the day as you support staff, visitors, and youth with a steady and dependable presence. You guide campus activity, respond to concerns, and help protect people and property with confidence. Step into a role where your work makes a clear and meaningful impact every day.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position helps maintain the safety and smooth functioning of the Loysville campus through patrols, communication support, and assistance with emergencies. The role also contributes to daily operations by monitoring equipment and systems and coordinating security activities. As a Security Officer 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Campus Security: Conduct patrols of buildings, grounds, fences, gates, and vehicles to maintain safety
- Facility Monitoring: Check plant systems and identify issues while deciding when maintenance support is needed
- Emergency Support: Assist during emergencies, participate in searches, and transport youth when required
- Communications Center: Operate the switchboard and monitor radio calls to support smooth information flow
- Front Office Tasks: Dispatch vehicles, manage keys and badges, sort mail, and coordinate absent without official leave (AWOL) searches
- Gate Operations: Control vehicle and pedestrian entry, process visitors, and monitor intrusion systems and fence alarms

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Loysville Youth Development Center is staffed by 3 work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You will work a 5-day workweek, including weekends and holidays, with 2 set regular days off. 8 hour shifts with no duty-free lunch will include:
- 1st shift: 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM
- 2nd shift: 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM
- 3rd shift: 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM
- Overtime as needed, will be voluntary and possibly mandatory
- Free parking
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $38,515.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirement:
- You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.
Other Requirements:

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
