Opportunity At A Glance

The Village of Tinley Park is seeking friendly, responsible, and mature individuals to fill Substitute Crossing Guard positions. These positions work hand-in-hand with the Village's premiere Police Department in keeping the youngest members of our community safe while crossing public roadways on their way to and from school. We are currently seeking to fill a few substitute openings for the next school year starting in August.

Key Responsibilities

The Crossing Guard will direct traffic at intersections regulated by traffic signals or stop signs in accordance with all Village and state traffic regulations; assist school-aged children and pedestrians across the street by entering the crosswalk with the proper hand-held sign and stopping traffic until the children have safely crossed the street; notify the school in the event of an uncooperative or abusive child; notify the Police Department of non-responsive drivers; and ensure the safety of children in the event of a suspicious person and notifying the Police Department of any such incident.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

The Crossing Guard will direct traffic at intersections regulated by traffic signals or stop signs in accordance with all Village and state traffic regulations; assist school-aged children and pedestrians across the street by entering the crosswalk with the proper hand-held sign and stopping traffic until the children have safely crossed the street; notify the school in the event of an uncooperative or abusive child; notify the Police Department of non-responsive drivers; and ensure the safety of children in the event of a suspicious person and notifying the Police Department of any such incident.

Additional Information

Pay rate is per run. A run shall be defined as the performance of the Crossing Guard's duties at an approved Village intersection for a period not greater than thirty (30) minutes. Hours consist of mornings and/or afternoons during the school year. This position is not eligible for benefits.
