Summary

The Traffic Control Officer performs clerical field work to enforce parking regulations and provide traffic direction and control for Piedmont Triad Airport Authority. Work is performed under the direction of a Police Sergeant andis evaluated based on effectiveness of enforcement operations and accuracy of records maintained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Patrol the airport area on foot or bicycle, enforcing various parking regulations as needed by issuing warnings, tickets, or parking stickers
  • Enter relevant information about license and vehicle, location, and time to generate tickets and warnings from handheld computers and printer
  • Explain parking and traffic policies and procedures to airport visitors
  • Patrol parking lots to inspect vehicles for proper parking authorization and issue citations as needed
  • Direct vehicles and pedestrian traffic during high volume times and in high volume places
  • Provide information about airport facilities and locations to visitors
  • Operate a two-way radio, cell phone, and other forms of technology to maintain communication with relevant departments and employees
  • Monitor parking areas to ensure proper use and safety, including handling and reporting any incidents or suspicious activities to the appropriate contact immediately
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of Piedmont Triad Airport Authority parking regulations, practices, methods, and equipment, including a two-way radio, vehicle, and T2 traffic device
  • Ability to prepare, maintain, and organize records and reports
  • Ability to operate handheld computer and printer
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply applicable policies and regulations appropriately
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
  • Ability to work effectively with the public and to enforce regulations fairly and accurately
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in tense or emergency situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and members of the public
  • Demonstrate leadership, problem solving, and excellent customer service skills
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination
  • Hold and maintain valid U.S. driver's license with 3 years of verifiable driving history
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior experience in related profession
  • Possess an associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • This position requires a variety of ranges of motion such as reaching, climbing, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and other repetitive motions when performing tasks and for long periods of time
  • Adequate hearing, writing, range of motion, speech, and visual acuity to operate a handheld computer, inspect parking stickers, distinguish vehicle colors, and hand write parking tickets
  • Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain
  • Ability to operate indoors and outdoors in all seasons, including extreme temperatures
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations and calls for service without delay, including climbing a minimum of two flights of stairs and maintaining clear radio communication
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
